Pizza Bianca

It's so humid outside that I felt like I was going to melt into the air.  (Weather Channel, I don't know how this can only be 55% humidity!)  I finally feel better now that I have finished my salad and have cooled off (temperature-wise not temper... I have a seriously low tolerance for BS right now).

I went to Just Salad for lunch.  I haven't been in awhile, and I probably should go more since it's healthy!  I was prompted to go this morning by good news landing in my inbox - they brought back the old bread!

I may have mentioned this before (but can't search from work), but Just Salad switched their bread at one point from this yummy bread to this multigrain roll.  I know the multigrain roll is healthier, but I'm eating a salad - I'll cut a little corner with that addictive bread.  It was so sudden and I was so sad that I was never going to have the good bread again.

Then they did a poll about the bread.  I guess a lot of people complained and wanted the old bread back!  It had been quite some time since the poll, so I just assumed they decided to stick with multigrain.

But I was wrong!  They are bringing back the old bread effective immediately - http://us1.campaign-archive.com/?u=b4ec00ae9a57d7956cc897bc8&id=98651872c4.

And now I know why it was so good!  It was Sullivan Street Bakery bread!  I never knew that before.

So in honor of the good bread returning - it was a Just Salad day!  And outside of the butternut squash being not as good as other days, the salad was great.  And the bread... well, now I want more. Yum, pizza bianca bread.

Dishes

I went to Dishes for lunch today, and it struck me that it was still really crowded there at an off-peak (1:30) time.  Despite all of the "bring lunch from home" and "the economy sucks" stories, the place with expensive gourmet lunch is still busy.  (Their "market table" - aka cold/hot buffet bar - is almost $10/lb.)  I don't even allow myself to go there before 1:30 because the 2 checkout lines double back on themselves resulting in no room to walk at the buffet bar.  I'm not sure if it was busier today than other days because it's "matinee day" (midtown is no fun on matinee day) or if it's always like this (I can't afford to go every day to check that out!), but it was fairly busy.  I guess people will still spend the money since the food is good.

On a food note, the usual dishes I get (albacore tuna salad, brazilian chicken salad, etc.) were still good, there was a 3 bean salad with tangy cilantro dressing that I wish I got more of, and a blackened catfish (cold) that I wish I had skipped.  (I guess I should stick to the cold salmon there.)   And many other dishes!

What to do for lunch tomorrow...

Falafel

The "first restaurant visited in 2009" honors goes to...

We went there for lunch on Friday and had some really good falafel and chicken shwarma sandwiches. This location used to be House of Pita, and I loved their falafel sandwiches. Pick-a-Pita is good too -- they let you add in all of their salads to the falafel sandwich which makes it so tasty. You can only see the falafel and the cucumber salad in my picture (mmm, with dill) but I also had carrots, tomatoes and onion and tabouli, and also hummus and tahini. Yum.

I just wish it were closer to the office and I could go more often! The falafel sandwich is a great price considering all the delicious food you get!
