PMBR until Sunday. Let's hope I learn something. Especially about property. :)
Regardless, it will be good to take another simulated practice test. Doing MCs in small sets in my apartment is just not the same.
But unfortunately, PMBR is being held at another law school that is an inconvenience to commute to, instead of my nice short walks to Northwestern, and I have to take the unreliable buses. And of course, it's during the day that it's really gross outside and looks like it's going to rain. Wheee. Time to go!

Languishing
Another day, a lot more to do.
I took part in my last real fun activity before the bar and went to the Cubs game. Got really exhausted from the heat, feel asleep during savasana at yoga, and am half-asleep now. But it was worth it. But having now been to Wrigley, I must say... it's more like a frat party than a baseball game. I'm more familiar with ballparks where people actually watch the game, with 2-out 2-strikes cheering and whatnot. I don't think half the people in the bleachers were even paying attention. So strange to me that so many people would go to a baseball game, not really intending to watch at all. Oh well. It was fun.
But before the game, it was the last class of Barbri - ever! Yay! Unfortunately, it was federal jurisdiction, and I sat through those 3 hours completely bored out of my mind. It was so bad that there are doodles and drawings on every single page of notes, and by the next to the last page, I was just so restless and bored that I started drawing on top of the handout paragraphs and not just around them. (Reminding me of 2nd grade where we put together a literary book as a class, and people drew pictures on top of other people's stories to illustrate them.) I'm not sure if it was because I knew there were more fun things to be done, because I just don't like civil procedure, or because I actually vaguely remembered all these concepts from law school and just didn't know the nitpicky details. But it took forever.
And the very last story we got in Barbri was the permanent erection story. Great. And... it took until the very last day of Barbri but we finally got those "if those people can pass the bar, so can you" stories. It came from the Barbri director man, and it was about an exam 15 years ago in a state other than NY. So not really directly relevant to us. But I wondered if, unlike CA, we'd make it out of Barbri without any of those stories at all. I guess not. But we only got 1 or 2, and on the very last day. For that reason, it wasn't so bad. They were the guy's "parting words" to us. Ha.
My outlines are going so much more slowly than they should. To keep myself accountable, I redid my whiteboard, to now show the outlines I've done, the outlines that still need to be done, and my (barely existent) progress in the PMBR red book - complete with questions done, questions right and % right (sigh, they need software...). And I might as well put the outline list here too, just in case I accidentally erase my whiteboard or something:
Agency
Commercial paper
Conflicts of law
Constitutional law
Contracts/sales/leases
Corporations
Criminal law
Criminal procedure
Domestic relations
Equity
Evidence
Federal jurisdiction *
Mortgages
No-fault insurance
NY Practice
Partnership
Personal property
Professional responsibility
Real property *
Secured transactions
Torts
Trusts
Wills & estate tax
Workers compensation
(Those marked with a * are the ones for which I have nothing inputed into the computer at all, not even a framework with the notes.)
Hmm. I'm in trouble. I better get back to corporations.

I wonder if these observation skills will mean that I will catch the tricks in the MBE questions during the bar. Let's hope.

Staring
Because I think about useless things during Barbri lectures, I wondered if Harry had broken a disciplinary rule on SATC when he started having sex with Charlotte. Was he still her lawyer when they started, or did he wait until the divorce was final? Since it was a domestic relations matter, that would be a big no-no if Harry started a sexual relationship with Charlotte while she was still the client. Tsk tsk. But I can't remember the exact order. I haven't watched the series since May.
It was a short fireworks display tonight. Which is good, because I had to get back to work. It is a little annoying though, that I won't be able to finish off this domestic relations outline tonight because we haven't yet finished the lecture. But what can you do.
I had a lot of baby carrots & hummus around dinnertime, and then ate a dinner portion of tortellini. I feel full, but then I ate a chocolate bar. This is a bad, bad situation. Must stop eating! Especially since I had to skip the gym again today, since I didn't get home from Barbri until 2, which left very little time to do anything at all before designated gym time. I can't wait until Sunday night, when there's no more obligations (Barbri or PMBR) and I really can just study. I need that time.
But before that... must finish all the outlines, so I actually will be able to study. I'm going in alphabetical order, and I'm still in the Cs. I printed contracts today, so after I'm done with typing up the stuff I do have for domestic relations and take a shower, it's on to corporations. Whee.

Cringing
I know I complain a lot about the flies. A lot. And it may not sound like a big deal, because they're just flies and they're outside. (Well, most of them. There are 3 carcasses on my windowsill that made me want to throw up when I saw them shriveled there. But see, it's a legitimate concern of mine - they CAN get in!) But I needed pictures to show why I'm so grossed out by the whole thing.
Here's 2 pictures. Imagine 4 large windows covered with those disgusting slit-like bugs. Granted, this window is the worst of all of them, but it's absolutely disgusting. I am so thankful that the window washers are going to start coming around tomorrow (although it may take a few days or weeks to cover the whole building, and my worst window is the one with the screen so it can't really be cleaned). Although I feel really bad for them, since it means they're going to have to be wiping away thousands and thousands of flies. Just thinking about it and looking at these pictures makes me lose my appetite. I think I may have to delete them from my computer now that I've uploaded them on the web. *shudder*

Publishing
One of those days.
I wrote that big long rant, and then Blogger had publishing errors. So while it felt good to spew it all out there, it wasn't quite so fulfilling because it didn't post.
And now it's double posted, even though I deleted the second one. I guess it'll disappear at some point. *shrug* I should get to sales, since clicking republish isn't going to help me pass the bar.

Ranting
Bar studying has made me increasingly hostile. Writing this post, I am especially annoyed, because this has not been a good Barbri day. Just a word of caution. So if you don't want to read a rant, feel free to stop reading. I won't be offended. :)
So, today is the next to last day of Barbri class. They gave out the evaluations. They're going to hate my evaluation, because I was bitterly filling out during this whole ordeal. You can feel my annoyance reading the evaluation. But anyway, what happened today.
1. Got to class and the video wasn't working, so we were going to watch it on a little TV from the back corner of the room.
Apparently, our admin had been trying to make the tape work on the projector big screen (I am not good with terminology) for awhile before class started, but it wouldn't work, so we had to use a small TV and VCR. Part of the problem is the really bad quality of these tapes. The sound is awful, they skip a lot, etc. But as long as it was working, I could deal with it.
But there were 2 problems with it being on in the back of the room:
a) You needed a microphone, so the whole class could hear it; and
b) The idiots next door complained that they could hear it when we used the microphone
I say the idiots next door, not because I know that they're idiots, but because I'm annoyed with them. It's not another bar class. If so, I would be less hostile. It's a Law Preview class. No offense to those people who took Law Preview and thought it was important, but I'm sorry, it's not as important as a Barbri lecture. If these people are going to law school, they should already know the importance of the bar exam. Therefore, if you can hear it next door, stop coming by to complain. You've already been told we're having technical difficulties, you know we're studying for the bar, and you should realize that our needs are more important.
Your program still works over at Law Preview. So, you hear some other noises? So what. Get over it and move on. You miss a couple of words at Law Preview? You're probably back in the same place you were, even had you not taken the course. We miss parts of domestic relations? We're screwed on the essays. So, honestly, I don't really care what you think about our domestic relations lecture being loud.
But we tried to be nice so they wouldn't keep coming by to whine.
2. Stop the tape and get some guys to move the TV set to the front of the room.
It was better to have the TV in the front generally for acoustics, and luckily we had some strong guys who could move the whole system on the cart down through the lecture hall. But still, had to spend time doing that.
And listening to all the filler crap from the Barbri people. You want to tell us about the locations for the bar? Great. You want to tell us about the security and what we can bring in? Great. But you just gave us the latter in a packet. You also put it on the post-course Paced Program. We know we need to look at what's allowed in, and most likely we already have. We don't need 40 minutes of blabber about what to do about the bar exam. Especially when today's lecture goes for over 3 hours on its own. Why couldn't you add all the stupid filler to the conflicts lecture on Monday which didn't even last for 3 hours? Priorities.
Things were going fine on the baby TV, until the sound cut out right after the professor finished his introduction. Nothing.
3. We're going to do Fed Jur instead.
Since the tape hadn't worked on the projector thing, and now wasn't working on the small TV, we decided to do fed jur instead and demand a new tape from Barbri.
Only one problem with that... fed jur has a handout. Today's lecture did not. Therefore, all the people without computers had no handouts. And all the people who would normally bring their handout book, did not have the handout. (People like me who only bring things for the specific class - e.g. tearing out the relevant handout - are just screwed anyway.)
Some of the nice Northwestern kids volunteered to get it printed out so that we could do it. Sounds good. But printing enough copies was going to take 20 minutes. But did we have a choice? Long break time.
And during the break...
4. The tape finally works in the projector thing. Perfectly.
Only problem was that we were 5 minutes into the break, the people were printing, we couldn't find them all, half the class was gone, and no one knew what the heck was going on. And since they were doing all of us a favor because of Barbri's horrible tapes, we couldn't really start without them. The whole ordeal took about 20 more minutes before we could start going again.
So I worked on my evaluation. Bitterly. I complained about the tape quality, about how it was useless for tapes not to work, how being prepared is useless when the tape doesn't work and you have to watch something else. I complained about the grader I had who was patronizing and told me to learn the law.
And then I got to a most interesting question (paraphrased):
Would you recommend Barbri to your friends?
My answer: "Do I have a choice?"
OK. I didn't write that. Well, not that exactly. I answered yes, because there wasn't much choice if you wanted a course that covered both state and multistate subjects, especially if you weren't taking the course in NY. I think the underlying insinuation is quite clear. Yes, I would recommend it, only because people don't have a choice because you have a monopoly on the bar program. Considering the situation (domestic relations was 3 hours and we were 2 minutes into it and it was already 10:30 or so), I probably should have just written, "yeah, because they have no choice." :)
5. We watch the tape in the projector machine, but we can't finish it because the class is going to come in at 1:30 to kick us out.
We always end up having to start at 8:30 when there are long tapes because the 1:30 people come barging through the door. Today was no different. Because of all the technical problems, the tape isn't done and we have to leave. So we have to finish it tomorrow. At 8:30. Before a 3 hr and 30 minute tape of federal jurisdiction.
I'm especially annoyed because to celebrate the last day of Barbri, and take part in the very last fun activity before beginning "24/7 nothing but bar," I was going to go to a Cubs game. And now Alvin has to wait outside until I finally make it to Wrigley, because they won't get the tickets until tomorrow. And I feel bad making him stand there doing nothing because the Barbri tapes don't work. I can't even have my last fun activity for the full amount of time, huh, Barbri? Out to make me miserable?
OK, so I'm being melodramatic. I do that a lot. But I honestly am pretty annoyed with them. How hard is it to make tapes that work?
Phew. I feel better now. Ranting and venting is so therapeutic. And I knew I needed to do this in order to get my mind to be able to concentrate and not deal with their crap. Sorry if you read this whole thing and put up with the whole rant. Not a very pleasant post, I suppose. I really hope they take the evaluations as seriously as they said they would.

Lagging
Not much blogging today, but also not much productivity. Oh well. They said you have bad days sometimes. Not going to fight it and get more upset about it.
I didn't feel so good during Barbri today. Basically kept my head on the desk the whole time while taking notes on agency and partnership. I think I dozed off a couple of times, but unlike the time when I wrote Harry Potter, my notes don't show any evidence of it. I'm becoming surprisingly good at taking semi-legible notes while dozing off, but I'm not sure I like the fact that it's happening. I'm not sure if I've actually caught a bug of any sort; I think it's more exhaustion and lack of sleep really catching up to me.
As a result, I ended up sleeping for about an hour and a half this afternoon. Skipped the gym because I felt sick. (Pre-decided on the walk home.) Ended up getting my agency and partnership outlines done, which is good, because they're done. But they're not huge topics and took a lot longer than they should have. Since I'm going to attempt to get sleep tonight, I doubt I'll get much of sales done, but it won't hurt to do some of it.
Watched parts of I Want to Be a Hilton over dinner and then Empire (the only non-reality show I've picked up this summer). They couldn't possibly have really killed Octavius, could they? Are they going to mess with history that much? Or is it actually a promo done correctly, to keep a cliffhanger, unlike all the Fox 24 promos? We'll see. Beauty and the Geek reunion show tomorrow! That should be a fun (dinner) break.
But since all I've done today is agency, partnership, and 8 MBE questions, I really should get to work on sales. After all, I'm not going to discuss last night's disturbing dream. It had nothing to do with the bar, but what was actually going on it (the parts I vaguely remember) and the combination between that and not feeling bothered by it when waking up, are a little unsettling. It's a lot more faded in my mind than this morning, so I'm just going to let it go for good. Time to get to work on Article 2!

Pasilla lime chicken cosi
It's a really yummy sandwich. I wasn't going to get it originally, but the guy had made a sandwich for sampling, and I just couldn't pass it up. Yum. I love Cosi.
Playing in the rain
It's supposed to rain today, but I do not have any time to play in the rain, even if I wanted to. But I don't, because I feel like I'm getting sick, and that would just make things worse.
Sucker teen movies
Not sure exactly what this means. I kind of like teen movies though. But "sucker teen movies"?

I have no clue how this led to me. I got nothing.
What is a good score on the Barbri simulated MBE
Well, according to the Barbri people, the average was 105. Honestly, I don't even know what I'm supposed to get in order to pass. I'm shooting for "the best that I can" to balance out the essays.
Sweet Tarts Chicks Ducks and Bunnies
My favorite! And they only come out around Easter. (I love Easter candy - it's all the best flavors! Especially the Skittles.) I wish I had bags leftover to bring as my "quiet snack" for the bar.

Yeah, that's me. MIA from friends & family because of the damn bar exam.

The Clydesdales are gorgeous. I want one. But why trailers and trucks? I don't understand.
Then the other assorted Barbri ones, like "Barbri NY 2005 Paced Program" or "Barbri Corporations essay." And more people searching for Carly Patterson's butt - what the HECK is up with that? And the whole "Marissa yawning" thing keeps coming up too.
I don't know why I'm watching Emeril make a vanilla and bourbon marinated pork loin. I don't like vanilla and I don't eat pork loin. I should really get to work.

Printouts of clothes for bears
I have no clue how this led to me. I got nothing.
What is a good score on the Barbri simulated MBE
Well, according to the Barbri people, the average was 105. Honestly, I don't even know what I'm supposed to get in order to pass. I'm shooting for "the best that I can" to balance out the essays.
Sweet Tarts Chicks Ducks and Bunnies
My favorite! And they only come out around Easter. (I love Easter candy - it's all the best flavors! Especially the Skittles.) I wish I had bags leftover to bring as my "quiet snack" for the bar.
MIA crayon
Yeah, that's me. MIA from friends & family because of the damn bar exam.
New diet pepsi commercial hot guy stayin' alive
Never seen it. Well, I probably have, but I don't remember it.
E-ring Chinese bruckheimer TV
E-Ring is on NBC in the fall. But I have no idea what this has to do with Chinese?
Twenty minutes sleep
More commonly referred to as power napping, a daily activity of mine. I'd rather not, but if I didn't, I wouldn't make it through the evening.
Budweiser Clydesdales trailers and trucks pictures
The Clydesdales are gorgeous. I want one. But why trailers and trucks? I don't understand.
Then the other assorted Barbri ones, like "Barbri NY 2005 Paced Program" or "Barbri Corporations essay." And more people searching for Carly Patterson's butt - what the HECK is up with that? And the whole "Marissa yawning" thing keeps coming up too.

Sharing
This piece on Gawker amused me today. Therefore, I am sharing it with you. :)
Seriously, it's sad how reading gossip during study breaks is what keeps me sane. Besides bar blogs, I have a list of like 6 sites that I check over and over and over and over again looking for updates. Yes, I take a lot of breaks.
Like the shower I just took, where I got water stuck both in my ear and up my nose. Apparently, my loss of normal people skills has now extended to taking a shower.
