And the summer of reality shows and reruns is in full swing.
NBC debuted Hit Me Baby One More Time tonight, and despite reading some quotes from skeptical critics, I checked it out. It was really enjoyable! Sort of like American Idol for has-beens. The money goes to charity, the groups sing one of their hits and a new song, and the studio audience votes. It's only on for 3 weeks, but it will be fun to watch while it's around.
Tonight was Loverboy, CeCe Peniston, Flock of Seagulls, Arrested Development and Tiffany. Some of them still sound really good! And I was surprised about how much CeCe Peniston's voice wasn't digitally altered in her original recording - she sounded almost the same as she did on the recording. Pretty good stuff.
What's good about this summer of reality shows is that there's not that many dating shows. (Let's leave aside Average Joe 4: The Joes Strike Back or whatever NBC is calling it.) Now, I'm not saying they're all good shows (see: I Want to Be a Hilton) but some are pretty enjoyable (see: Beauty and the Geek). And it's summer - no one's looking for a high quality show. Just something that will be fun. So far this week I've seen Beauty and the Geek, Dancing with the Stars and Hit Me Baby One More Time. Fun stuff. :)
And now, back to NY Practice.
